The Link Between Hair and Confidence

What is confidence?

Even more specifically in this case, Self-confidence when it comes to physical appearance.

Physical Self-confidence can be defined as the ability to look in the mirror and feel a positive vibe and a sense of pride in one’s appearance. But who sets the standards for what are the criteria of being “good looking”? Society and trends do.

Centuries ago, women with a fuller body were considered more attractive than the Slimmer ones. Very much so, hair plays a similar role.

Back in the 1920s, it would be unusual for a man to not wear a hat. This was the trend and fashion. In today’s world with a dominance of social media, celebrities being exposed by the internet on a daily basis, those trends have shifted. Now, men who are bald or balding are not considered as good looking or attractive, as the men with a head full of hair with a few exceptions of course. Our nature as a species, makes us thrive to look good for others and eventually through positive feedback on our appearance and interactions, one learns to love his own self-image.

When we look at the average woman’s daily grooming routine or her wardrobe, it is very easy to understand that physical appearance is extremely important for the gender. From nails to hair, perfumes, dresses, jewellery and so on.

advanced-hair-studio-the-link-between-hair-and-confidence-w770

Men, on the other hand, have a very limited set of things to look after in contrast to their female counterparts. A decent sense of style, proper hygiene, perhaps some form of physical exercise for muscular enhancement, and of course, hair. With hair, men can express their identity through trendy hairstyles that suit their personalities. Deprive them of hair, and a major loss of control over their appearance is the result, swiftly followed by a loss of self-confidence.

So, why do men suffering from hair loss experience a loss of self-confidence? (To various degrees) It is primarily due to the loss of control and choice over their appearance but also, jealousy, the normal human emotion. Take 2 men of the same age group, one bald, one with a head full of hair, it isn’t hard to understand why the bald man would feel sad and jealous when looking at the other person sporting a trendy hairstyle. Not only is the person with a head full of hair able to express his identity through his hair, but he also looks significantly younger.

Men today are not the only ones suffering from hair loss or thinning in general, the number of women experiencing hair loss or thinning has increased dramatically in the last 30 years and for these women, the loss of confidence is equally significant or even worse than men, as they cannot even gracefully go bald or work on their physique to compensate for the lack of hair, like many A-list Hollywood actors have done. The likes of Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson comes to mind.

When it comes to attracting and interacting with the opposite sex, today’s world is, unfortunately, far less forgiving in terms of one being judged solely by their appearance, as opposed to in the past. This can be explained by the rise of the internet era. Today it’s extremely easy to have access to someone else’s pictures through social media and, as a result, this creates an immediate first impression based exclusively on physical appearance. Worse yet, in the western world, there has been a very steady rise in online dating as people have less and less time to socialize or try to go out to meet new people. Apps such as Tinder create an illusion and expectation solely based on looks where men with a capillary deficit are at a significant disadvantage unless they have compensated with a muscular body or have a head shape naturally suited to not having a mane.

The brutal reality of today is that society is progressively becoming shallower and judging when it comes to looks, and hair places a key role for men in this case. There has also been a marked rise in the “metrosexual” man in the biggest developed cities of the world. A metrosexual is a heterosexual male individual whose grooming regiment can match or even exceed a woman’s. Facial creams, mani-pedis, skin exfoliation and many other grooming rituals that used to be considered laughable if done by a man is becoming more and more socially acceptable. As such, men are becoming even more self-conscious about their looks than ever before.

Based on all this information, it makes perfect sense why there is such a strong link between hair and confidence for men with a few exceptions to the rule of course. Regardless, it is a very important component of your average man’s self confidence levels.

16 Do’s and Don’ts for a Successful Hair Transplant

At Advanced Hair Studio, we perform hair restoration surgery for clients who are struggling with hair loss for various reasons such as hormonal problems and male pattern baldness. For many people, hair transplant surgery — also called follicular unit extraction (FUE) — can restore a full or gain a fuller head of hair. Hair restoration surgery involves transferring hair follicles from one area of the scalp to a balding part where they can continue to grow.

16-dos-and-donts-for-a-successful-hair-transplant

As the FUE procedure continues to grow in popularity, it’s important to remember that complying with your surgeon’s instructions are crucial to a successful transplant and a faster recovery. Here are some of the most important do’s and don’ts to achieve the best possible results.

1. Do Keep Your Scalp Dry

You will need to keep your scalp dry while it heals. Avoid taking showers or swimming for few days. You will have a follow-up appointment the day after your surgery at which point your scalp and hair will be shampooed and blow dried before your scalp is examined. You can usually begin shampooing and blow drying your hair as usual about one week after your surgery.

2. Do Apply the Antibiotic Ointment

Your surgeon will prescribe an antibiotic cream that you must apply to your scalp after your surgery. This cream will help prevent infection and reduce irritation and swelling.

3. Do Take Painkillers After Surgery

You may experience some discomfort after surgery. You can begin taking painkillers about 3 to 4 hours after surgery once your anaesthesia wears off. Always take your medication as prescribed to reduce any discomfort you are feeling.

4. Do Ask Questions

During your consultation and ahead of your procedure, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Getting your hair back is a big decision and you want to be sure that FUE is the right choice for you. You will also want to have answers to all of your questions prior to your transplant, especially when it comes to managing your recovery and maximizing your success.

5. Do Have Someone Drive You Home

You will need someone to drive you home after your FUE procedure. This surgery is done under a sedative that helps you relax but it takes hours to wear off. Though most of us are confident on a personal note it isn’t safe to drive while the sedative is still in your system.

6. Do Follow Your Customized Post-Op Directions

Your surgeon and the team will provide you with personalized post-op instructions that must be followed. This post-op care plan will also be reviewed with your designated driver prior to surgery.

7. Do Sleep in an Upright Position

Keep your head elevated while you sleep and use two or more pillows if you can or sleep in a recliner chair. This helps reduce swelling on your scalp by allowing blood to flow away from the scalp.

upright-sleeping

8. Do Apply Light Pressure to the Follicular hair

If you notice mild swelling or bleeding once you wash your hair, apply very light pressure to the area with gauze or a moist, clean cloth for 5-10 minutes. Do not dab the area because this can contribute to scabbing and infection. However, you can expect some scabbing in the beginning of the healing process.

9. Do Keep Your Hair Long

If you are concerned about hair follicles or grafts being visible at first, keep your hair long for the first week or two until scabs heal and your stitches are removed. A very small number of clients experience a so-called “shadow effect” in which follicles are visible. Keeping your hair a bit longer than usual can help hide this effect.

10. Do Be Patient

It’s important to go into hair transplant surgery with realistic expectations. You can expect your first new hair to start the growth cycle in 2-4 months after your surgery but remember that hair grows in cycles. This means not all of the new Follicular hair will begin growing at once. By the 8th or 9th month, about 90% of the hair grafts will be growing hair. Once all of the transplanted hair has grown, your results should look very natural, even when examined closely.

11. DON’T Expose Your Scalp to Sunlight

After your hair transplant dubai, it’s important to avoid exposing your scalp to direct sunlight for the first few days. This can cause irritation, especially if your scalp is tender and swollen. Wear a hat if you need to go outside.

12. DON’T Scratch Your Scalp

You may experience itchiness of your scalp after your procedure but it’s important to leave your scalp alone as it heals. If you scratch or irritate your scalp, you may dislodge your hair follicles before they can grow.

13. DON’T Drink or Smoke

Drinking and smoking can both interfere with the blood supply to your scalp and reduce the success of your hair transplant. Avoid alcohol for at least 5 days after your procedure and do not smoke for at least 3 to 4 weeks.

dont-smoke

14. DON’T Play Sports or Engage in Heavy Exercise

Excessive sweating can increase the risk of an infection on your scalp. After your surgery, avoid any activities that may lead to excessive perspiration for about a month. This includes sports and moderate to strenuous exercise.

15. DON’T Be Worried When the New Hair Falls Out

About 2 to 3 weeks after your surgery, the transplanted hair will fall out. This is a normal effect of the procedure and not a cause for concern. You should notice new hair growth within a few months. You may also notice some loss of original hair at the recipient site. This is called shock loss and it’s usually temporary. Most people experience 60% new hair growth after 6-9 months. Your surgeon may prescribe various medicated topical applications to improve hair growth after your procedure.

16. DON’T Chemically Treat Your Hair

You will need to wait at least 30 days before you color or chemically treat your hair in any way. If you undergo any hair treatments, you may want to schedule them for one week before your surgery.

Your Guide to Reducing Hair Fall and ideal Hair Regime

Greasy, untidy, falling hair are things that people lose sleep over. In today’s time, it is necessary to care for your hair & nurture them if you want them to look great. This is an ideal guide for your hair regime and tips to stop hair fall, from Advanced Hair Studio, which is phenomenally going to change the way your hair looks.

1. Brushing your hair

So, let’s start with the basics. Brushing or combing has been perceived as a technique of styling your hair and some people think it causes hair fall. But, it isn’t exactly true. Your scalp requires good blood circulation to promote healthy hair strands. Brushing your hair regularly ensures proper blood circulation in the scalp, along with transportation of oxygen & nutrients in the hair. It is advisable to brush twice in a day. Brushing also helps in reducing hair fall.

2. Argh! Blow Drying Hair:

Using a blow dryer post-shower is widely practiced among women. However, they take no notice of the ill effects of using it on their hair. The excessive amount of heat a blow dryer produces when in contact with your hair can easily make them dry, brittle or damaged and also cause hair fall. So, you need to be over-cautious about the frequency of using your blow dryer.

3. Oil – Bring it On:

An important thing to include in your hair regime is a good organic oil or preferably a blend of different organic oils in combination with some powerful essential oils. Oiling hair is a great way to keep them nourished & healthy. Essential oils such as Tea tree, Rosemary, Lavender are considered effective for hair growth & hair strength. They also help in fighting hair fall.

4. Deep Condition your Hair:

Even if you condition your hair regularly, deep conditioning has its own perks. Deep conditioning can be done using your regular conditioner, however, visiting a good salon for a leave-in conditioning treatment will give your hair that extra oomph that you have been desiring for long. This process makes your hair smooth and shiny. This too helps with reducing hair fall.

5. Pick your Shampoo wisely:

Before plunging on that large dollop of your shampoo, you must be aware of the constituents of it. There are certain compounds, such as Sulfates, which harm the roots & quality of hair while stripping the essential oils from the scalp and causing hair fall. Therefore, it is advisable to check the labels on the back of shampoos prior to getting to purchasing them.

Adopt these simple changes in your lifestyle & the resultant change in your hair will definitely amaze you. However, if the condition of your scalp has been deterring you for a while, come see us at one of our studios for an Advanced Hair Check. This will help you get your hair deeply analyzed by an expert and they can help suggest the best solution to your hair problems.

Hair Regrowth For Men: Before And After Pictures You Won’t Believe Are Real

Hair regrowth for men that simply have to be seen to be believed!

If there’s one thing that each and every single man on the planet has in common, it’s the undeniable fear of losing his hair. Yes, going bald is right up there with the fear of public speaking, spiders, homicidal clowns and flying in planes – which is to say, losing one’s hair is one of the more common fears among earth’s general population. The good news is that hair regrowth is not impossible. Hair regrowth for men needn’t be a difficult thing in today’s world, especially as the technologies on offer are readily available.

While almost 99% of men lose their hair due to genetic reasons, there are a small percentage that suffer hair loss due to other factors: lack of the correct nutrients and minerals as a result of bad diets, insufficient sleep, stress, and excessive smoking and alcohol intake. If you are experiencing hair loss, you needn’t worry. There are a variety of hair regrowth treatments out there that are able to give your scalp a new lease on life.

Whether you’ve started to notice a suspiciously thinning hairline or you’ve invested in a brand new panama hat (they’re so in this season) to mask your unsightly and rapidly expanding bald spot, there’s a fair chance you’ve dabbled in one of the many “miracle” hair regrowth methods or cures available to you.

Know this: while there are plenty of hair regrowth options out there developed specifically to fight hair loss, it’s hard to tell which methods to take seriously and which to flush down the drain with the last vestiges of your once thriving coiffure. Check out these hair regrowth before and after pictures below for some inspiration.

The real reason behind Trichotillomania is not been understood or found, however researchers believe that it is caused due to chemical imbalances in the brain. Does A Buzz Cut Impact The Normal Hair Growth Cycle

Can particular types of hair cuts affect the normal hair growth cycle?

At Advanced Hair Studio UAE, we receive a lot of queries regarding hairstyles and whether it impacts on the normal hair growth cycle. Recently a reader wanted to know whether his preference for buzz cuts could adversely affect hair regrowth down the line, so we decided to share our insights on the matter.

Does A Buzz Cut Impact The Normal Hair Growth Cycle

Buzz cuts & hair loss

We are very happy to report that buzz cuts do not cause hair loss or hair thinning. The only relationship between buzz cuts and hair loss that we could find is that gentlemen who suffer from male pattern baldness often prefer to shave their heads rather than opting for less slightly solutions like a comb-over hairstyle. Happily, there is no causal relationship between the two beyond the notion of personal preference.

In fact, you are more favorite impede hair regrowth or contribute to hair loss by wearing your favourite cap day in and day out. We recently published an article that discussed the notion of continual hat wearing and how it impacts on hair loss, which you can read here. The gist of it is that blood flow restriction and exposure to excess sebum and sweat could negatively impact on the health of your scalp and therefore deter natural hair regeneration.

What is the normal hair growth cycle?

While we are on the topic, here is a quite explanation of the four stages of the normal hair growth cycle:

1. Anagen (the growing phase): The anagen or growing phase will normally last between two to seven years and determines the length of an individual’s hair.
2. Catagen (the regression phase): The catagen or regression phase will normally last approximately ten days. During this phase the hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla.
3. Exogen (the shedding phase): The exogen or shedding phase refers to the period between the natural death of a resting hair and when it detaches from the follicle. During this phase the hair naturally loosens and falls.
4. Telogen (the resting phase): The telogen or resting phase lasts approximately three months and around 20% of your hair is in this stage at any given time.

It is important to note that our follicles are in a constant state of flux, which means that not all of your hair will be in the same growth phase at once. While some are growing or regressing, others are shedding or resting. There is not a lot you can do to prolong the growth stage or shorten the shedding phase, except adhering to a healthy lifestyle that will promote your body’s ability to grow strong and healthy hair. Look out for our article on daily lifestyle habits that keep your hair healthy for helpful advice on giving your body a helping hand.

Hair styles that do impact the normal hair growth cycle

While a buzz cut might not impact on the normal hair growth cycle, there are hairstyles that contribute to something called traction alopecia. In short – certain hairstyles pull on the roots of the hair, slowly killing it over time. These hairstyles include tight buns, cornrows, dreadlocks, weaves, hair extensions and chemically relaxed styles. Buzz cuts do not contribute to traction alopecia.

So what can you do when you notice hair loss?
